Cyprus was an island frozen like a x-ray. A moment in time forever ossified. Divided in two, the scar ran from coast to coast like a permanent fracture. A conflict gone cold, the dearly departed, missing passports, invisible people everywhere.

Cyprus was an island frozen like a x-ray. A moment in time forever ossified. Divided in two, the scar ran from coast to coast like a permanent fracture. A conflict gone cold, the dearly departed, missing passports, invisible people everywhere.

In the euphemistically termed ‘Green zone’, broken bowls still sat still on breakfast tables. The food never eaten by unwilling patients that fled the operation.
I exhibited my photographs in a little gallery in the capital and called it ‘Absence’, something missing from every snap. Those that went lamented those that couldn’t be there. Those that couldn’t see it cracked the joke.
