The Images

Anthony has created galleries of images from time spent in Europe and the Mediterranean, South East Asia, the Middle East, the Sub-Continent and the Americas. His photographs are framed within this geographic context, hence the atlas structure of the site.

A collection of distilled moments...

The galleries do not try to perform an audit of journeys undertaken. They are less a reflection of place and time, than an absence of such. Viewed one after another the pictures become a collection of distilled moments.

Glimpses into hidden corners, fragments of unknown plot lines; a fractured series of obscure signs, secret symbols and transitory apparitions. The photographs become traces, clues, ghostly messages that, at the moment of taking, someone or something lingered just outside the circle of the lens.

'Photography is the only language that can be understood anywhere in the world'

Bruno Barbey

No matter how close to home...

Taken together they question concepts like 'exotic' or 'original'. No effort is made to 'get off the beaten track' or claim to be the first to find. There is no pretence at 'unique insight' or 'real culture'.

The strange and the foreign are evident in each immediate environment no matter how close to home. Look for a moment longer, each photograph seems to tempt.

See the most familiar scenes and objects drawn in an unfamiliar (even sometimes haunting) light.
